#017 – On this episode, we share steps you can follow to make sure your kid successfully builds one of the most important parts of the college application, taking the right courses in high school to meet the course requirements for admission into the colleges or universities to which your kid will be applying.
Different types of colleges and universities will have slightly different high school course requirements for admission. It is may not be enough for your son or daughter to be on a college track. It will be up to you and your kid to make sure the right courses are being mapped to take each year of high school.
Depending on the college or university your kid wants to apply to, he or she may need to take more courses than are part of the normal college track. It is important that you do this early in high school because some of the courses are sequential, meaning one course has to be taken before the next.
Highly selective schools may require for your kid to take more courses, and at more advanced levels. The same applies to specific programs, such as engineering, which your kid may be interested in joining in college.
Because of this, it is important for you and your kid to know precisely what each college expect from each applicant. We will share with you the steps to follow to make sure that is precisely what happens.
We compare the course admission requirements for three different types of universities in California. These three types of universities represent similar schools in other states:
We also mention the “A-G Course Requirements,” which are the required courses for admission to a California state university. These can be found at A-G Course List.
